Why donating to our NHS maternity hospitals is important
I decided after giving birth to my 2 boys that I felt a definate need to give something back to my local NHS maternity hospitals in Lincolnshire. My way of doing this was by donating £1.50 from every maternity sloan shirt I sell on my website. I then came up with a brilliant idea of involving Lincolnshire Schools to have a non-uniform day and each child would bing in £1.00 as a donation to the NHS maternity hospitals, this is in it's infancy stage and I am arranging for the schools to run there non-uniform days on 3 fridays throughout June 2008. I want so much to raise as much money as possible for our maternity units because on the 2 occasions I have given birth one natural and one c-section, it is obvious that they are under staffed and under funded. We hear about it on the news that there is a shortage of midwives and there is, I saw it and alot of my friends have seen it so why is nobody doing anything about it? When I had my second child I was bedridden in hospital for 5 days and was extremely ill and I was not treated correctly before I gave birth and after, but like other women I never said anything because i had a perfectly healthy child, and I genuinely felt sorry for the skeleton staff that were trying to look after a full ward of pregnant women all wanting aftercare at the same time. The midwives aren't at fault, they are trying to do there job on minimum resources, and they are so passionate about there work. A midwife to me is a person that you will never forget, you'll never forget her face, you'll never forget her name, why? because she has helped you receive something so special and I truly think that these special people deserve alot more recognition. The money that The Maternity Barn is raising will be ongoing and will be contributed towards equipment for the maternity units and midwife courses. There are roughly around 6,500 births in Lincolnshire a year and that is growing rapidly. That is a large number of births that is split into just 2 hospital maternity units. If I can make even a slight difference that will make me feel I have given something back to those angels that bought my 2 beautiful sons into this world, that will make me a very happy person!! |
